Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe, on Sunday evening, was keen to make his appreciation for Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker known.

This comes, for those who may have missed it, after the Brazilian played a central role in his side’s eventual triumph at St. James’ Park.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops, of course, made the trip to Tyneside earlier today, ultimately emerging on the right side of a 2-1 result.

After both falling behind, and seeing captain Virgil van Dijk given his marching orders, Liverpool stood tall, eventually battling back to a remarkable victory courtesy of a double on the part of substitute Darwin Nunez.

Nunez, though, was not the only hero for the day’s visitors to St. James’.

At the other end, shot-stopper Alisson was at his imperious best throughout, producing a number of world-class saves to keep Newcastle at bay.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle on Sunday, Newcastle’s boss explained:

“Alisson’s save, for [Miguel] Almiron’s shot, was the best I’ve ever seen in my life.”

For those who were not lucky enough to catch the save in question live, it arrived late in the first-half, when Alisson somehow managed to tip a thunderous Almiron drive onto the woodwork and out.
