Manchester United are weighing up a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney as they look to hand Erik ten Hag more firepower in attack.
The Red Devils have already signed Rasmus Hojlund this summer in a deal worth up to £75m, but the Danish attacker is currently out injured and is expected to see his gametime managed as he returns from a back injury, while his youth means that he is not expected to hit the ground running at Old Trafford.
With Anthony Martial less than reliable, however, Ten Hag is thought to be keep on another attacker to bolster his ranks in the coming months. However, financial fair play rules means that as it stands, that is is unlikely to come this window with a midfielder thought to be the no.1 priority.
Instead, Football transfers claim that the club are willing to wait for Ivan Toney to return from his betting ban before making a January move for the Brentford striker.
It is reported that ‘there is a feeling that the Red Devils are prepared to wait until the winter window to bring in the former Newcastle player’, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season in just 33 appearances.
However, it is by no means a certainty, and it is added that ‘it’s thought that there will be some healthy competition for his signature from the Premier League and beyond’ should any club move to sign the England international in the winter window.
