The Red Devils are expected to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, with Jack Butland only on loan and set to leave at the end of the season.
David De Gea is expected to stay at the club beyond this summer, but it was initially thought that he may no longer be first choice shot-stopper under Erik ten Hag, with his inability to play with the ball at his feet a constant feature of Manchester United’s play despite their good form in recent months.
However, it has since been suggested that prioritizing moves for other positions (such as striker and central midfield) will leave him as first choice next season.
Moreover, he is thought to be nearing a new deal with the club.
“I hope to finish my career at Man United. I was saying this is my club, it’s a huge honour to be here and I’m so happy here”, the Spaniard revealed in February.
Beyond that, however, it is less clear. Dean Henderson was unhappy with his treatment at the club and has now suffered an injury that will cut short his loan spell with Nottingham Forest, with the England international expected to be sidelined for three months.
As per the Daily Mail, the Red Devils have begun searching for fresh blood between the sticks, though despite links to the likes of David Raya, Diogo Costa and Jordan Pickford, they are set to go for a less high-profile target.
‘They checked on Croatia number one Dominik Livakovic’ over the weekend, while they ‘also watched Sweden international Leopold Wahlstedt’, the English outlet reports.
Neither shot-stopper would cost a significant amount, though they would also not offer the calibre of previous targets.
