Liverpool are lining up an audacious move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo should they lose Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia in the coming months, according to reports in Spain.
Salah has been a player of longstanding interest to the middle-east, and was viewed as one of their top targets over the summer. They tabled a bid for the forward and were ready to offer £150m for him, as well as making Salah himself the highest-paid player in football history.
However, Liverpool remained firm on their not for sale stance, despite Salah reportedly being ready to leave were the Reds to have accepted the offer.
Under contract until 2024, Al-Ittihad are expected to return for the 31-year-old in the coming transfer windows, and with more time to replace him Jurgen Klopp and co. may consider cashing in on the veteran, especially if similar money is offered.
Should Salah depart, Spanish outlet Fichajes report that the Reds have their eye on Real Madrid man Rodrygo, who could become available should Los Blancos finally land Kylian Mbappe when he becomes a free agent next summer.
He wouldn’t be cheap though, with the 22-year-old a regular for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. It is added that the Spanish giants ‘would be willing to listen to offers for Rodrygo as long as they exceed the 100 million euro mark’ (£86m).
Still just 22-years-old, Rodrygo could offer Klopp a ready-made replacement for Mo Salah and a player almost a decade his junior. Should they be able to complete the move and make a net profit, they may well do so.
