Premier League new boys Luton Town are interested in signing Rob Holding, though they won’t be able to land him on loan as initially reported, it has been confirmed.

The Hatters have lost both of their opening two games of the season, and are on the hunt for more additions before Friday’s transfer deadline.

That has led them to Arsenal, and the London Evening Standard claim that they have enquired about defender Rob Holding, who is also attracting interest from Spanish sides and other Premier League clubs.

They add that ‘Holding has been left out of the Arsenal squad for their first three Premier League fixtures and manager Mikel Arteta has cleared him to leave Emirates Stadium.’

However, they will have to offer a permanent deal for the defender for several reasons. Holding is out of contract at the Emirates Stadium next summer as things stand, while Luton have also used up their two allocated Premier League loans, having signed Issac Hayden from Newcastle United and Issa Kabore on loan from Manchester City.

Any move for the defender will have to be permanent, though Arsenal have already turned down one £2.5m offer for the defender this summer. With Luton’s current record signing just £5m, it is unlikely that the Gunners will get the sort of fee to tempt them into selling Holding despite being open to his departure.
