Liverpool star singled out for heavy criticism during Netherlands clash

A headline member of the defensive ranks at Premier League giants Liverpool has come in for heavy criticism on Sunday evening.

The Reds star in question? Virgil van Dijk.

For those not aware, stopper Van Dijk is currently locked in action, on the international front.

In their latest qualifying outing for Euro 2024, the Netherlands have made the trip to Dublin, for a meeting with Stephen Kenny’s Republic of Ireland.

With 45 minutes on the clock, the two sides remain level, after Adam Idah’s early opener from the spot was cancelled out by another penalty, on this occasion courtesy of Cody Gakpo.

Whilst one Liverpool star has managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the Irish capital, though, another has endured a difficult night to date.

After being responsible for the spot-kick awarded against his side, the Dutch captain has too been given all sorts of trouble by Norwich City man Adam Idah, culminating in quite the backlash across social media:
