Paris Saint Germain have been dealt a substantial blow on the injury front after it emerged that defender Nuno Mendes is set to spend four months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
The issue, which has kept the Portuguese defender out since April, will undergo surgery on the injury and is not expected to return for the Parisians until 2024, news which will come as a massive blow for Luis Enrique’s side.
Arriving from Sporting in 2021, Mendes has seen his time at the Parc des Princes dogged by injury, missing over 25 games through various issues.
He will now miss several more, with the 21-year-old set to go under the knife in Finland on Friday in a bid to end the issues that surround him.
PSG have struggled so far this season under new boss Enrique and already find themselves two points off top side Brest, but thrashed bitter rivals Marseille 4-0 last weekend and the Spaniard will be hoping that the result acts as a launchpad from which to take Ligue 1 by storm once more this season, despite the result being marred by Kylian Mbappe being forced off with injury in the first half.
In Mendes’ absence, summer addition Lucas Hernandez has been filling in at left-back, while Layvin Kurzawa (who spent last season on loan at Fulham) has also been recalled to the matchday squads after spending the summer training with the PSG ‘undesirables’, a squad that also included Mbappe for a time amid his contract standoff with the club.
