Bet of the Day: England vs Iran – 13:00 & Senegal vs Netherlands – 16:00

Senegal vs Netherlands

Over 1.5 match goals

Netherlands over 0.5 cards

Netherlands 4 or more shots on target

Starting off their World Cup campaigns both Senegal and Netherlands will fancy their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages. Netherlands are heavy favourites to top the group and rightly so especially given that Senegal have lost their star player in Sadio Mane this week through injury.

Over 1.5 match goals looks very solid with both teams having a combined average of 75% of games having over 1.5 match goals in their recent matches. The two sides are very strong in terms of goals scored with Senegal averaging 1.3 goals scored per game and the Dutch 2.3 goals scored per game on average.

Senegal have an expected goals of 1.92 whilst Netherlands is 1.7 – proving that the Dutch are much more efficient in front of goal. Senegal conceded 0.90 goals on average a game and have only kept a clean sheet in 40% of matches whilst the Dutch concede on average 1.1 goals per game and have only kept a clean sheet in 30% of their matches.

The Dutch have received one or more cards in 90% of their matches and have a few players who are partial to a booking in the form of Dumfries, Blind and De Roon. I expect the Dutch to dominate possession whilst Senegal try to hit them on the break. This should result in fast turnovers in play and the Dutch midfield and defensive players committing fouls to slow down counter attacks.

In terms of shots on target the Dutch have had 4 or more shots on target in 70% of their recent games and with them being the favourites here due to Senegalese injuries you’d expect them to pile on the pressure. Dutch games have averaged 12.7 shots per game and 7.2 on target so we fancy them to test the Senegalese goalkeeper.

England vs Iran

England to have 5 or more shots on target

England over 3.5 team corners

World Cup 2022 Betting Tips, News and Predictions

Opening match in Group B sees England face Iran and with plenty of off the field political topics both teams are desperate to just concentrate on the football.

England are rightfully the favourites, but Iran are no pushovers and have a decent defensive record, they were narrowly defeated by Spain 1-0 in Group B of the 2018 World Cup and I fully expect them to put up another good defensive showing here.

Iran will be tactical and again try and hit England on the counterattack but for the majority of the game we would expect England to dominate the ball and prove the Iranian defence, which should set up our bet builder lines.

England have averaged 4.9 corners for per game leading up to the World Cup and you’d expect them to at least maintain that average against a defensive looking Iranian team. 80% of England’s recent matches have seen them take 4 or more corner kicks.

England have averaged 6.3 shots on target per match and 80% of their games have seen 5 or more shots on target. We all know of the attacking options England have and on their day can destroy lots of top defences so it’s not unrealistic to see England pepper the Iranian goal here.

I do expect a close game with Iran defending for the lives trying to frustrate England but that should really help with our selection here and eventually England running out winners in the opener.

Double pays – 2.93/1

Key stats & talking points

Harry Kane is set to captain England in their outing vs Iran on Monday. The 2018 Golden Boot winner heads into the tournament looking to break Gary Lineker’s record for most goals scored at a World Cup by an Englishman. Kane sits on six goals ahead of Iran, with Lineker notching 10 from 12 games previously.

England and Iran are set to face Iran for the first time in their history when they kick off at 1 pm.

Netherlands and Senegal will also do battle for the first time on Monday, with the latter set to be without star man Sadio Mane.

Ahead of England’s group getting underway, the Three Lions have the highest probability of winning the World Cup this year:
