Liverpool have revealed that all of Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner will leave the club on free transfers this summer as they look to refresh an ageing squad at the end of the season.

Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain have spent as much time on the injury table as in the squad since their arrival for a combined £90m, while Milner is set to join fellow Premier League club Brighton when his deal expires at Anfield.

The departures will free up room both in the squad and on the wage bill for a major overhaul in midfield, with the likes of Mason Mount, Alexis Mac Allister, Moises Caicedo and Manuel Ugarte all reportedly among the targets for Jurgen Klopp and his side.

“Liverpool FC can confirm Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer”, an official statement read.

Additionally, Arthur Melo has confirmed that his unsuccessful spell at Anfield will also end this season, with the club not planning to activate the £37.5m option to buy written into his loan deal from Juventus.

The Brazilian has played just 13 minutes since his deadline day loan move to the Reds from Juventus, suffering an injury that required surgery and ruled him out for much of the season.

“Next season I see it with good eyes. It will be decisive in my career and I am working very well,” he said. “I’m looking forward to showing this new version of Arthur”, he told Goal.

“Hopefully I have an option to say goodbye in Liverpool by playing something, to say goodbye to my team-mates, the technical committee and the fans, who have been very good to me.”
