A veteran member of the defensive setup at Premier League giants Manchester United has, on Friday, put pen to paper on fresh terms with the club.

The player in question? Jonny Evans.

For those who may have missed it, former Red Devils star Evans secured a return to Old Trafford earlier this summer.

On the back of the expiration of his contract with Leicester City, the Northern Ireland international was granted permission to train alongside the rest of Erik ten Hag’s squad, culminating in a short-term one-month deal.

Evidently, though, despite his age (35), Evans did enough to convince the powers that be at Carrington of his readiness to contribute in at least some capacity over the course of the season ahead.

In turn, on Friday, the stopper has seen his terms extended through the summer of 2024.

‘Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Jonny Evans has joined the club, signing a one-year contract until June 2024.’

Evans is expected to provide emergency cover at the heart of Erik ten Hag’s backline, whilst also acting as a respected veteran presence in the dressing room.
