Southampton have sacked manager Nathan Jones after just 14 games in charge, a period which has left them glued to the bottom of the Premier League table and has alienated large portions of the fanbase.

The Englishman took charge following the departure of Ralph Hasenhuttl, but aside from one hard-fought victory in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals against Manchester City, never looked like turning the club’s woeful form around.

He oversaw just one Premier League win in seven games, where two James Ward-Prowse goals proved the difference against Everton, and had been written off by large sections of his own fanbase for weeks before the decision to sack him was made.

“Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones”, an official statement read.

First Team Coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club.First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea.

Jones was not helped by his press conference demeanor, often coming across as spikey and lacking any answers to the questions that managing Southampton threw up.

Southampton travel to Stamford Bridge next, still rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and four points from safety with just 16 games to go.

As it stands, Marcello Gallardo is the early bookies favourite to take over the role.
