Real Madrid have confirmed that centre-back Eder Militao has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury just days after Thibaut Courtois was ruled out for much of the campaign with the same issue.

The Brazilian defender limped out of action during Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club on the opening day of the La Liga season, limping out of action in clear pain just five minutes into the second half and having to be replaced by Antonio Rudiger.

And Los Blancos worst fears were confirmed on Sunday, when Real Madrid revealed that the 25-year-old had suffered an ACL injury.

“After the tests carried out on our player Éder Militão, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days”, an official statement revealed.

It caps a terrible few days for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who also saw Courtois ruled out for much of the season with the same injury after limping out of training.

Real Madrid are thought to be closing in on a loan move for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, with the Spaniard having turned down a move to Bayern Munich in order to move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Meanwhile, they have been dealt an additional blow by the news that Kylian Mbappe has entered talks with PSG over a new contract, though a man of the match performance from Jude Bellingham gave a glimpse into the future for the Spanish giants.
