Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he found Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino the most difficult player to deal with during his time in the Old Trafford hotseat.
Solskjaer, who was in charge of the Red Devils from 2019 to 2021, was giving his first in depth interview about his time at Old Trafford since he was sacked one game short of 150 at the helm.
The 50-year-old has not had another job since and lifted the lid on the situation, explaining that he would be interested in ‘a different challenge where I need to experience a new culture and learn a new language.’
Looking back at his time in charge though, there was one game and one player that stuck firmly in his mind.
In my last season, we played Liverpool at home,’ he told The Athletic. ‘I felt the players were ready for it, just like I’d felt they were ready when we’d gone to City and won. We could have sat back and countered but my decision was to go for it.
‘We lost 5-0. It was 50/50, more or less, in possession and chances at half-time, yet we were 4-0 down. I made the wrong decision and that was my lowest point as United manager by a mile.

During the game in question, Firmino didn’t register a goal or an assist but caused plenty of issues with his movement, which in turn allowed Mohamed Salah to walk away with a hat-trick.
The Brazilian has since left the Premier League and is plying his trade in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ahli, for whom he has scored three times in five games.
