Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has, on Sunday evening, provided an update on the wellbeing of key defender Andreas Christensen.

This comes, for those who may have missed it, after the Dane was hauled off prematurely in Barca’s latest outing.

The Blaugrana marked their return to action a short time ago, eyeing a 2nd win on the spin, at the expense of Villarreal.

And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what Xavi and co. managed, courtesy of a thrilling comeback triumph.

After racing out into a two-goal advantage inside the opening quarter of an hour, Barca were soon pegged back, before bizarrely falling behind five minutes into the 2nd-half.

Ferran Torres, though, emerged from the bench to level things up a little over 20 minutes from time, before, minutes later, Robert Lewandowski bagged what proved to be the decisive goal in a 4-3 result.

This came upon Andreas Christensen, who only recently returned from a spell on the sidelines, failing to emerge for the 2nd-half of action.

Eric Garcia was introduced in his place, sparking immediate concern surrounding a fresh injury for the former Chelsea man.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at El Madrigal, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Christensen’s wellbeing was put to boss Xavi Hernandez.

In a boost for the La Liga champions, though, it was subsequently confirmed that the stopper was suffering with little more than ‘discomfort’, with his withdrawal having therefore come for precautionary reasons.
