A remarkable statistic, highlighting the stellar recent production of an out-of-favour member of the midfield ranks at Premier League giants Manchester United on the international front, has come to the fore late on Friday.
The player in question? Scott McTominay.
Despite having managed a paltry total of just seven minutes of action at club level over the early weeks of the new campaign, McTominay was afforded his latest start for Scotland a short time ago.
In the country’s Euro 2024 qualifying meeting with Cyprus, the 26-year-old featured from the off alongside John McGinn and Billy Gilmour in the middle of the park.
And, safe to say, McTominay wasted little time in justifying boss Steve Clarke’s call.
Inside the opening six minutes in Larnaca, the all-action midfielder directed a textbook header beyond Joel Mall in the Cypriot net:
MCTOMINAY AGAIN! 🏴🏴

As revealed by Opta, tonight’s marked the transfer-linked Man United man’s sixth goal of Scotland’s qualifying campaign.
With McTominay also boasting an assist across this stretch, he therefore stands alone as the player with the most goal contributions in Euro 2024 qualifying to date.
