Tottenham have been working on a new contract for Antonio Conte since October.
Then, Spurs were confident of getting him to agree to a long-term deal.
However, since the resumption of talks this month, that has now slightly changed and sources close to the negotiations are less optimistic, according to the Athletic.
Spurs are unwilling to throw money around which may frustrate Conte who believes he is a few players short of what he needs.
Regardless, Tottenham have the option to extend his current deal beyond the end of the season, when it is due to expire.
But, they are keen to secure his future to a longer-term deal and talks remain ongoing.
