Bruno Fernandes will “definitely stay” at Manchester United this summer, according to head coach Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils skipper refused to commit his future to the club in an interview last week, saying he will not think about it until after Euro 2024.

But the Dutch boss has since quashed rumours and considers Fernandes a key player in his project.

The 29-year-old has been instrumental in United’s European push this season, scoring 10 goals and grabbing seven assists in the Premier League in 2023-24.

He still has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford but is wary that his career will not last forever and insists he wants to win the biggest trophies.

Ten Hag says Fernandes’ comments have been taken out of context and talk of an exit is rubbish.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Crystal Palace tonight, he said: ” I know he is Manchester United and I think he is very happy to be here.

“Taking responsibility is one of the biggest assets top footballers have nowadays to show and to deliver.

“Bruno is a very good example for many other players. He is a real fighter.

“Last year when we played Brighton in the [FA Cup] semi-final, he played with an ankle that was so thick. It was unbelievable. He couldn’t run but he was still on the pitch.

“He is always available, always delivers and always gives energy to the team. Such assets are necessary to be successful.”
