Birmingham City have named Chris Davies as their new head coach.

The Midlands side have taken a risk by appointing Tottenham’s assistant boss on a four-year deal.

Davies, 39, has also had coaching spells at Swansea, Liverpool and Celtic but will now take the reins from Tony Mowbray, who recently stepped down.

The Blues have had to pay compensation to Spurs for Davies as he still had two years left on his contract in North London.

Reports say Birmingham spoke to over 40 candidates for the vacant role at St. Andrews’ and they have finally found a suitor for the hot seat.

Speaking for the first time as Blues boss, Davies said: “I am proud and honoured to be the Manager of Birmingham City.

“As soon as I spoke with Tom, Garry, Tom Brady, and other board members it was clear to me how passionate and committed the board and all of the Football Leadership Team are to bringing success to this club.

“It is a club with an ambition that reflects my own, and a plan to make it a reality. It is such an exciting time to be at Blues.

“I can’t wait to get started, meeting everyone at the Club and speaking to our supporters.

“I will give everything to build an attacking team that reflects this great city, and most importantly to produce a team that our supporters can be proud of. Let’s go.”

Birmingham were relegated from the Championship at the end of the 2023-24 campaign and fans will be expecting their side to bounce straight back up.

But it is never that simple in the EFL and Davies will likely have a tough task ahead of him in 2024-25.
