Juventus have confirmed the appointment of Thiago Motta as their new manager.

Motta has signed a three-year deal after leaving fellow Serie A club Bologna, who he led to a fifth-place finish and Champions League qualification last season.

The former Barcelona midfielder has earned plenty of plaudits for his progressive approach at Bologna and will now be tasked with restoring the Old Lady to their former glories.

His arrival in Turin had been expected for some time after opting not to extend his contract with the Rossoblu towards the end of last season.

The 41-year-old said: “I am really happy to begin a new chapter at the helm of a great club like Juventus.

“I thank the owners and the management, who can be sure of my ambition to keep the Juventus flag flying high and to please the fans.”

Motta replaces Max Allegri, who sacked after finishing third and winning the Italian Cup.

The Turin side last won the league in 2019-20 and have struggled to maintain a serious title challenge since, falling behind the likes of Inter Milan and AC Milan in recent years.
