Lionel Messi of Argentina

Copa America 2024 is on the horizon and Group A pits the current holders Argentina against some very unpredictable opponents in Canada, Peru and Chile.

Lionel Messi is looking to guide the 2022 World Cup winners to another triumph in a major tournament and they are heavily backed to retain the title they won in 2021.

Lionel Scaloni’s side is stacked with the best talent from across the globe and on paper Group A should be a breeze for them.

But 2016 champions Chile are looking to cause an upset and win the group themselves, while Canada and Peru will also be hoping for the best during their time in the United States.

If you like to keep up with the action by placing some punts on the action, this is the perfect tournament to turn over some great profit.

Later in this article, we will identify a few good value bets but if you need to open an account, you can find the best promotional offers on the market.

Predictions, Bets, Odds

The odds listed below were provided by bet365 and were correct at the time of publication. However, they are subject to change.

Peru to finish bottom of Group A @ 7/5 with bet365

Chile to qualify @ 1/1 with bet365

Group A is fairly open away from Argentina and is you look hard enough, you will be able to find some great value bets.

Messi’s cohort are heavy favourites to win the group, but if they have a single slip-up there is value on second favourites Chile to finish top at 6/1.

If you are looking to play it a bit more safe, you can get them just to qualify at evens.

Canada’s pricing is very appealing for the average punter and if you fancy Alphonso Davies to guide the Maple Leafs into the knockout rounds, you can get them to qualify at 5/2.

The same can be said for Peru, who sit at 2/1.

And if you simply think Argentina are nothing special, you can back yourself at 50/1 for the World champions to finish bottom of their group and exit early.

Group Preview

Argentina are coming into the tournament off the back of a five-match winning run that dates back to last November.

Since lifting the World Cup two years ago, they have won 13 of their 14 matches.

It is a blessing and a curse as everyone wants to beat the champions of the world but their confidence is also sitting at an all-time high.

They are FIFA’s No.1 ranked team and the clear favourites for the tournament, let alone Group A.

Messi will lead the side but there are plenty of other talents to keep an eye on, including Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez and Tottenham’s Cristian Romero.

Peru will punish you if you do not take them seriously. FIFA’s 32nd-ranked team are inconsistent but when things click, they can give any side a game.

They are certainly in the mix to progress and keep an eye on Edison Flores who will be keen to make his mark in front of goal.

Chile’s back-to-back Copa America wins in 2015 and 2016 are a distant memory for fans from the South American nation and their drop-off in recent years has been sad to see.

Alexis Sanchez is still playing for his country at 35 but he will need to recapture the form of his life if he is to lift the trophy in the US once again.

Canada are not expected to do much at this summer’s tournament, but having qualified through the play-offs, there is no reason why they could not cause an upset or two.

Davies, alongside Lille’s Jonathan David can produce moments of magic but the nation have only played six times since they were booted out of the 2023 Gold Cup.

New head coach Jesse Marsch has a lot of work to do if his side are to pose any significant threat to Argentina, Peru and Chile.
