England's Harry Kane

Harry Kane needed less than 19 minutes to put England in front against Denmark in their second Uefa Euro 2024 match as the Three Lions captain opened his account at the tournament.

Bayern Munich striker Kane pounced to fire in from Kyle Walker’s cross after the full-back seized on slackness in possession from Victor Kristiansen in Frankfurt.

“Kristiansen got caught on the ball,” former England forward Alan Shearer told BBC Sport. “He didn’t sense Kyle Walker creeping up on him.

“It is then about if Walker can pick out the ball. It took a deflection or two but if there is one man you want it to fall to it’s Harry Kane. His tournament is up and running.”

Kane goal v Denmark lifts England

The goal put England on course to qualify with a game to spare, having beaten Serbia 1-0 in their opening game courtesy of Jude Bellingham’s first-half winner.

Serbia scored a last-gasp equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw with Slovenia in the preceding match, meaning neither side would be able to catch England at the top of Group C if Kane’s side won.

Victory would potentially allow head coach Gareth Southgate to rest players for their final group-stage game against Slovenia.

Kane goals record for England

Southgate named an unchanged starting team against Denmark, who England beat in the semi-finals of Euro 2020.

Kane became only the third player to score in four separate major tournaments for England, having netted at the last two Euros and the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

The 30-year-old joined former Liverpool forward Michael Owen and Manchester United all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney on an illustrious list.
