Florian Wirtz scored an 89th-minute equaliser as Germany forced a 1-1 draw against Spain to take their Uefa Euro 2024 quarter-final to extra time.
Midfielder Wirtz pounced on Joshua Kimmich’s header to skim in the equaliser off a post and keep the hosts in the tournament.

Niclas Fullkrug’s strike from Wirtz’s pass hit a post for Die Mannschaft 13 minutes earlier as Julian Nagelsmann’s side intensified their pressure with full time nearing.
Dani Olmo had put Spain ahead six minutes after the break, firing in a first-time finish from Lamine Yamal’s third assist of the finals.

Germany vs Spain: Wirtz goal not enough
Spain went on to win the game a minute from the end of regular time in exta time, Mikel Merino scoring the winner for Luis de la Fuente’s side.
The result was cruel on Germany but in-form Spain will feel they were worthy winners after producing more of the chances.
Alvaro Morata spurned a fine opportunity for the three-time champions within two minutes of the restart of the second half in regular time, scooping a shot over the crossbar from close range.

Germany won their group courtesy of a last-gasp equaliser in their closing group-stage match against Switzerland before beating Denmark 2-0 in the round of 16.
Spain beat Croatia, Italy and Albania during the group stage and came from behind to thrash Georgia in the round of 16.
They will play Portugal or France in the semi-finals in Munich on July 9.
