Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart after the striker passed an elongated medical.
Guirassy sustained a knee injury while on international duty with Guinea which delayed the move but Dortmund’s medical team are satisfied it does not require an operation, enabling the 28-year-old to finalise the switch.
He has signed a four-year-deal at Signal Iduna Park with Dortmund meeting the player’s release clause of €18.5million (£15.5m).
Guirassy scored 28 goals in the Bundesliga last season – second only to Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane – to help Stuttgart finish second and had been linked with Manchester United.

However, he opted for Dortmund and was delighted to have joined the Champions League finalists.
He told the club’s official website: “When Borussia Dortmund want you, it’s something special.
“Every child in the world interested in football knows this club, knows the black and yellow jerseys, knows the Yellow Wall. I am very excited about all this.
“And it is important for me to say: I came here to win titles. That’s my aim, that’s my drive. The club showed what is possible last year by reaching the Champions League final.”
Knee issue cleared up
Guirassy will undergo an individual rehabilitation programme to speed up his recovery from the knee problem. Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken said: “It was important for us to obtain the most accurate specialist assessment of Serhou’s injury in the interests of BVB and the player. Thoroughness clearly came before speed here. Now all the facts are on the table, and we are convinced that we have made the right decision with this transfer.”
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl is excited to have Guirassy at the disposal of new coach Nuri Sahin, who succeeded Edin Terzic at the end of last season.
Kehl said: “We have the chance to show top performances in the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, as well as in the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup and to achieve our ambitious goals.
“For this, we need first-class options in all positions. Serhou is an extremely dangerous and complete striker who will strengthen us and our squad with his qualities.”
