Pep Guardiola says he “liked everything” about Manchester City’s display despite being frustrated by Inter Milan in their Champions League opener.

A resolute Inter display prevented Guardiola’s men from performing at their best as they struggled to create many chances at the Etihad.

But despite only claiming a point, the Catalan boss said he did not have any issues with the way his side applied themselves.

The 53-year-old told TNT Sports: “Inter are a team that defends really well. They are the masters of defending and transition as well.

“We conceded one-and-a-half chances and we couldn’t create many chances when a team defends 11 players so deep.

“I’m pleased with our performance, I liked everything.”

Ilkay Gundogan went the closest for the 2023 winners with two late chances, with Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol also denied by Yann Sommer.

And Inter may well have secured a victory for themselves had Matteo Darmian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan been able to convert two golden chances.

Defender Ruben Dias was in agreement with his manager that it was a positive display by City despite not being able to take all three points.

Dias said: “It was a very intense game against a strong opponent.

“We knew what was coming, they are a top team as well and they are used to winning, so we were not going to have an easy job.

“The team had a great performance, we were very close to scoring. We take it and we move forwards. It was a good test for us.”

City face Slovan Bratislava in their next Champions League game, while they come to blows with Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.
