Ange Postecoglou says there is “no quick fix” to solve Tottenham’s issues after their late win against Coventry in the Carabao Cup third round.
Spurs were heading for a shock exit to the Sky Blues before Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson scored in the 89th and 93rd minutes respectively to cancel out Brandon Thomas-Asante’s opener and send them through.
The victory ended a two-game losing streak for the North Londoners but it did not stop criticism coming their way after being second best against the Championship side for much of the encounter.
Postecoglou was adamant that he “always” wins a trophy in his second season before the game but says improving their fortunes will be a gradual process.
“It was a tough game. Credit to Coventry, I thought they were outstanding. They really took it to us,” the 59-year-old told Sky Sports.
“We had to hang in there somehow and we did. In the end credit to the lads. It was a typical cup tie.

“There is no easy or quick fix to where we want to get to and one result doesn’t change that.
“We showed what we have been missing the first four games. We have lacked a little bit of an edge and hopefully tonight gives the boys a little bit of belief.
“We weren’t as fluid performance-wise. Some of that is down to Coventry, they played with high energy.
“In the end I was pleased both for Djed and Brennan. They have come on and made the difference for us and made a difference in the game.”
Johnson’s winner, a cool finish past goalkeeper Ben Wilson, was a significant moment for the youngster after recieving backlash on social media following their North London derby defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
The 23-year-old’s celebrations after the goal were muted but Postecoglou is hopeful it will provide some much-needed confidence to the forward.
He added: “Hopefully a great deal. He’s a fantastic young man, a great player.
“I have a lot of time for him because he works so hard every day. He took his goal well tonight and he made a good impact.”
