Alisson

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is a doubt for tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth at Anfield.

The Brazil goalkeeper has a muscle problem and will be assessed before the game as the Merseysiders look to build on the midweek Champions League win at Milan.

Boss Arne Slot said: “Alisson is still a doubt if he can train today and if he can’t, then he will probably not play. We have to wait and see.

“He has a slight issue with one of his muscles. We wonder if this game tomorrow is coming too early or not. He didn’t do it in the Milan game, he felt it before then he felt it more and more. Now we have to see if he’s ready for the weekend.”

Midweek joy

The 3-1 win at San Siro was the perfect riposte after questions were asked of Slot’s team following last weekend’s 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

“It was not only about bouncing back after the loss against Forest,” added the Dutchman. “The last two years we performed in Europe we had some difficulties in the Champions League and last season when Atalanta came it was a difficult moment, so we had a point to prove [in Milan].

“The Liverpool teams of the past and some of these players have set high standards in Europe and we have to try to get back to those standards and we have made a good step.

“The performance shows we can dominate in a stadium that is not Anfield.”

Better expected from Liverpool

Slot admitted he was disappointed by the performance last weekend against Forest and expects better against the Cherries.

“There were more things that we weren’t happy about than all the other games we’ve played,” he said.

“I prefer to play against a low block, you would expect us to create a lot of chances with our quality of players, but we have not faced it that much.

“If every player had played five per cent better against Forest, which would not have been that hard, it would make a massive change.

“It starts with us doing better tomorrow. But maybe the fans can give us an extra push.”
