Newcastle’s EFL Cup third-round clash with AFC Wimbledon has been switched to St James’ Park on October 1 because of flooding in south west London.
The match was due to be played at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Tuesday night but will now be played in the north east seven days later.
“Following an agreement between both clubs and subsequent approval from the management committee of the competition, the fixture will now be reversed and will take place a week later at St James’ Park,” an EFL statement said.
Inclement weather struck overnight, leaving the pitch at the Cherry Red Records Stadium unfit.
A Wimbledon statement read: “We regret to inform supporters that due to extensive overnight flooding of the River Wandle and surrounding areas, including at our Cherry Red Records Stadium, Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup third-round fixture against Newcastle United has been postponed.
“The stadium is closed until further notice.”
Newcastle suffered their first defeat of the season at nearby Fulham on Saturday, the Cottagers winning 3-1.
