Atletico Madrid have received a sanction following the crowd disturbances during their derby against Real Madrid on Sunday.
The punishment includes a partial closure of their stadium and a fine.
The incident occurred during the second half of the La Liga match when Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, alerted officials about objects being thrown by home fans seated behind his goal.
The match was halted for nearly 20 minutes as attempts were made over the stadium’s loudspeakers to get the crowd to stop throwing objects.
However, the appeals were disregarded, leading to a temporary suspension of the game.
Following an investigation, the Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee has ruled that Atletico Madrid must close the lower south section of their Metropolitano Stadium for the next three home games.

Additionally, Atletico Madrid has been fined 45,000 euros (£37,460) for what the committee described as “very serious” and “totally unacceptable” behaviour.
The game itself ended in a 1-1 draw, with Atletico’s Angel Correa scoring a stoppage-time equaliser after Real Madrid’s Eder Militao had opened the scoring earlier in the match.
Atletico Madrid have announced that they have already identified and banned one fan involved in the incident.
