Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have been charged by the FA for failing control their players after a mass confrontation during Saturday’s 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

Players from both sides clashed towards the end of the encounter at Stamford Bridge after Neco Williams appeared to push Marc Cucurella off the pitch.

“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 88th minute,” the FA said in a statement.

Blues striker Nicolas Jackson will face no action after appearing to slap Forest defender Morato as tempers flared, with the incident not spotted by the referee or checked by VAR at the time.

Jackson was not on the pitch having been substituted in the 81st minute.

Both sides have until Thursday to respond to the charge.

Three players were booked after the altercation, Cucurella and Levi Colwill for Chelsea and Williams for Forest.

Six members of Enzo Maresca’s side were shown yellow cards during the clash, meaning they are subject to an automatic £50,000 fine after accumulating six or more bookings in two separate games this season.

Forest also ended the game with 10 men after James Ward-Prowse was shown a second yellow card for deliberately handling the ball as Chelsea threatened to break.

Noni Madueke’s 57th-minute finish earned a point for Chelsea after Chris Wood had put the visitors in front early in the second half.

Both sides were denied late winners after some inspired by goalkeepers Robert Sanchez and Matz Sels, who denied efforts from Williams and Christopher Nkunku respectively from point-blank range.
