Wayne Rooney has been charged with improper conduct by the FA after his red card in Plymouth’s win over Blackburn.
The Pilgrims boss faces charges over the incident which came after Joe Rankin-Costello’s 87th-minute equaliser for the visitors, with Rooney protesting over a missed foul on Ryan Hardie in the build-up.
Rooney is accused of using insulting or abusive language towards a match official and that his conduct after he was red-carded was improper and/or violent.
The former England captain is also facing another charge relating to returning to the field after his red card.
Argyle went on to win 2-1 thanks to Morgan Whittaker’s stoppage-time winner in what was their third victory in five Championship games.

Assistant Pete Shuttelworth told BBC Radio Devon after the game: “He’s still passionate. You’ve all watched him play for many years and you know that passion is what drives him.
“He has still got that passion on the touchline.
“He likes to be calm and calculated at times as well and see the game, and that’s his management style, but you’re never going to take that out of Wayne.
“I don’t know what the exact sending-off was for, but he probably just reacted in that way and got sent off.”
Rooney has until Tuesday, October 15 to respond to the charges.
