Liverpool will be without goalkeeper Alisson for around six weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury in the win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Brazil international pulled up after 79 minutes of the 1-0 victory at Selhurst Park and was replaced by third-choice Vitezslav Jaros with regular back-up Caoimhin Kelleher absent through illness.

Reds boss Arne Slot admitted after the game that losing a goalkeeper of Alisson’s quality was a major blow.

He said: “Alisson is our clear number one, the best goalkeeper in the world so it’s a blow when he gets injured for himself and the team.

“We have a second option that’s already good. Caoimhin has already shown that, which is why Caoimhin is the number two and the last time Alisson was injured, I played Caoimhin. He did really well, it’s pleasing to see that our third goalkeeper can have an impact on results as Caoimhin was ill yesterday and today.”

Alisson subsequently pulled out of the Brazil squad for the upcoming games with Chile and Peru and is not expected back until after the next international break.

If the predicted timeline is followed, the 32-year-old will hope to return for the trip to Southampton on November 24.

Between now and then, the Premier League leaders have seven games, including domestic tussles with Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa as well as Champions League fixtures against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.
