Ryan Mason will remain at Tottenham after recent talks with Belgian side Anderlecht over becoming their manager.

Spurs granted first-team coach Mason permission to speak with the Belgian Pro League club this week about potentially replacing Brian Riemer, who was dismissed on September 19.

However, on Thursday Anderlecht announced they had decided to permanently hire interim boss David Hubert and Mason will therefore stay part of Ange Postecoglou’s coaching staff at Tottenham.

Once-capped England international Mason has worked as a coach at the Premier League club since 2018. He was forced to retire from playing at the age of 26 following a fracture to his skull in a game for Hull at Chelsea a year earlier.

Mason has had two spells in caretaker charge of Spurs, first as a 29-year-old in 2021 and then also in 2023. He won six of 13 games in charge.

Anderlecht were managed by current Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany between 2020 and 2022 and have had six English managers in the past, most notably Bill Gormlie who won five titles in the 1950s.
