Scotland picked up the first point in their Nations League campaign with a 0-0 draw against Portugal.
The Portuguese, who fielded a star-studded side led by Cristiano Ronaldo, struggled to break through Scotland’s defence in what was an underwhelming display at Hampden Park.
Scotland’s best chance of the game came early on as Scott McTominay headed straight at Diogo Costa, with Ronaldo also missing a golden opportinity with his head.
Steve Clarke’s men remain bottom of Nations League group A1, with Portugal remaining top with 10 points.
McTominay had a golden chance early on but his header was guided straight at Costa in a strong start by the hosts.
After that opportunity went begging, Portugal asserted their control, dominating much of the possession at Hampden Park.
But for all of their dominance on the ball, the Tartan Army restricted Ronaldo and Co to few sights of goal, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner forced to feed off a few half chances, leaving 41-year-old Craig Gordon relatively unchallenged in goal.
Ronaldo then had a huge chance put the Portuguese ahead early in the second half after being afforded acrers of space by the Scottish defence but he sent his header over the bar.
Aside from that chance, Scotland continued to defend well and thwart Portugal, but in truth the star-studded visitors flattered to decieve in what was an underhwelming display going forward.
But they continued to push for the winner late on as Gordon produced a fine save to deny Bruno Fernandes before getting to the rebound ahead of Ronaldo.
Debutant substitute Nicky Devlin then put in a brilliant block to deny Rafael Leao from close range just moments after coming on, helping the Scots claim a much-needed point.
