Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hit back at speculation surrounding his job, accusing the media of spreading “fairytales and lies” about his future with the club.
Ten Hag faced scrutiny leading into the international break after a series of poor results, including a humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham.
And with United sitting 14th in the Premier League, many believed the Dutchman would be dismissed during the break, especially after some members of the Glazer family and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe attended a pre-planned board meeting in London last week.
Despite the rumours, Ten Hag remains in his position and insists the club is united behind him.
He said: “The noise is only coming from some of you, creating stories and fairytales and bringing lies.
“I know we are on one page at this club. I said this before the break. But internally, it is quiet.”

Ten Hag pointed out that the media overlooked his post-match comments after the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, where he confirmed he had the full backing of the club.
United are in a tough spot, with the possibility of extending their winless streak to six games in all competitions, something they haven’t experienced in five years.
Their next match against Brentford presents an opportunity to turn things around.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank was one of the candidates considered for the United job last spring, though Brentford have not won at Old Trafford since 1937.
Ten Hag added: “Of course, we are unhappy with the position we are in.
“The ranking is not lying, and it is not good enough. But we are quiet and composed. We stick to the plan and are convinced it will be a success.”
