Arne Slot was delighted to see his Liverpool side overcome RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Reds continued their perfect start in Europe, beating the German side 1-0 away from home.

Darwin Nunez got the goal, tapping in Mohammed Salah’s goalbound effort in the first half.

And having already beaten AC Milan and Bologna, it puts the Merseyside club on maximum points alongside Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

Slot was full of praise for his players and admitted the win was the most important thing.

Speaking to the press, he said: “First of all, we’re really happy for the win.

“We played a difficult away game against a group one game in Leipzig.

“We controlled the game in large parts apart from the last few minutes, We needed Virgil and Ibou and our goalkeeper.

“If we lost this place with a draw then I would’ve felt we lost something.”

Alongside Virgil van Dijk, Nunez and Caoimhin Kelleher were standout performers for the Reds.

And Slot was full of praise for the pair, particularly his goalkeeper.

He added: “Very fortunate. it’s also a normal thing at a club like ours that you have very good players in every position.

“Ali was out last season and out this season again. It’s not only him. We have players who are not always in the starting lineup who did it again today.

“I asked for a goal. He [Nunez] gave us one but in the lead-up to the goal, [Cody] Gakpo was important and Mo with an assist. It was a team goal. It’s pleasing to see that Darwin did a really good job today.”

There is no time to rest for Liverpool, who travel to Arsenal at the weekend.

The Gunners lost to Bournemouth on Saturday and looked far from inspired against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

Slot said: “We have to play that game and we know how tough Arsenal are especially in their own stadium.

“Arteta has done an amazing job in the last few years and we have to be on top of our game to get a result.”
