Ruud van Nistelrooy has named the first line-up of his spell as Manchester United’s interim manager for their Carabao Cup clash against Leicester.

United are in cup action against the backdrop of their search for a new manager following Erik ten Hag’s sacking, with the appointment of Sporting boss Ruben Amorim looking set to be completed in the coming days.

For now though, they have popular former striker Van Nistelrooy leading the troops as they look to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Van Nistelrooy has named a strong XI in what could be his one game in charge of the Red Devils.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho all start with Joshua Zirkzee handed the chance to lead the line.

Diogo Dalot, Matthijs de Ligt, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez make up the back four with Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro in holding midfield.

Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is handed a chance to impress in goal with Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund the key options from the bench.

Leicester team news

Leicester have shuffled their pack from the side which lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest last Friday with Steve Cooper making nine changes.

Only James Justin and Caleb Okoli remain in the side and Jamie Vardy is not in the matchday squad at all, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jordan Ayew leading the attack at Old Trafford.
