Liverpool will be without injured trio Alisson, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa until after the next international break in mid November, manager Arne Slot says.

Goalkeeper Alisson has missed four matches with a hamstring injury, striker Jota injured his ribs against Chelsea last month and summer signing Chiesa has only managed 78 minutes for the club in all competitions.

Slot said: “It is always difficult to tell you exactly when they are ready because especially in the last phase of the recovery can always be a few days extra or less.

“The fact is that they are not there before the international break and let’s see if they can join us after.”

Liverpool faced Brighton in midweek in the League Cup, with Cody Gakpo scoring two fine goals.

He could start through the middle or on the left, while former Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister could also play in a number of positions.

Slot said: “He’s a player I would play in all three positions in the midfield because he is so comfortable in all three.

“I saw a lot of him at Brighton because there was a manager I was quite interested in back then [Roberto de Zerbi].

“He is now at the moment the midfielder who plays a bit in between. Ryan [Gravenberch] is almost always the deepest. Dom [Szoboszlai] or Curtis [Jones] are playing a bit higher and then Alexis is in between.

“It depends on how dominant we are whether he is the second 10 or the second six. He is comfortable in both phases of the game. He can help us bring the ball out from the back and he is also capable of making the difference in and around the 18-yard box. We want to see him in both situations as much as we can.”
