Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has described the Premier League as “the most difficult league in the world” following his side’s poor run.
The Villans have stuttered in their last two games, losing to Tottenham and drawing to Bournemouth.
They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Crystal Palace, who have won just once this term.
Following that, Villa were handed their first Champions League defeat of the season at the hands of Club Brugge in midweek.
Things do not get any easier for Emery’s men either.
On Saturday evening they travel to Anfield to face high-flying Liverpool.
Unai on the players being ready to face Liverpool tomorrow: “If we want to play in Champions League or in Europe; if we want to play to be contenders or fighting for a trophy, we have to play three matches in a week… We need rest, but I think that we are rested. Arne Slot’s men sit at the top of the table, having lost only one game, at home to Nottingham Forest.
But the club do have players capable of causing problems for the Reds, and Emery is adamant that his side can retain their place in the top four come the end of the season.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “I think it is the most difficult league in the world, because we have the better teams, historically and now in the moment we are.
“The available coaches, the available players and of course they are progressively arriving, a lot of young coaches, fresh coaches with a lot of ideas tactically.
“Football is going so quick and of course we have to adapt, we have to learn, we have to be better.
“We are enjoying the way we are doing. Last year was a very successful season in the Premier League, getting to the Champions League. This year, the objective for us is to keep it.”
