Leicester City’s Premier League-winning manager Claudio Ranieri is reportedly set to come out of retirement to take charge of AS Roma.
The 73-year-old Italian is believed to be in talks about a return to the Serie A giants, whom he managed from 2009 to 2011 and then again in 2019.
Ranieri, who famously steered Leicester to an unlikely Premier League triumph in 2016 and also managed Chelsea during the early Roman Abramovich years, had previously called time on his management career after leaving Cagliari at the end of last season.
However, it is being widely reported in Italian media that Ranieri has agreed a deal to head back to the Stadio Olimpico dugout.
The manager’s job at Roma has been something of a revolving door this season. Club legend Daniele De Rossi, who took over from Jose Mourinho in January, was sacked just four games into the 2024-25 campaign.
Then, earlier this week, with Roma sitting 12th in Serie A having lost four of their last five league games, Ivan Juric was relieved of his duties after just 53 days in charge.

Under Ranieri, Roma finished second in the 2009-10 season, ending the campaign two points behind Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan.
His second spell at the helm of his hometown club in 2019 saw him take temporary charge until the end of the season, with the club ultimately missing out on Champions League football after finishing sixth.
Throughout his career, Ranieri has had 23 managerial appointments, including stints at Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli.
