Scott McTominay says he has “no regrets” over leaving Manchester United in the summer after a promising start to life at Napoli.

The United academy graduate has scored three goals in 10 games for the Italian club, who are top of Serie A.

It is the 27-year-old’s first experience at a new club after joining the Red Devils at the age of five before establishing himself as a first-team regular, but says there is no looking back as he embarks on his new life in Italy.

In an interview with The Times, McTominay said: “Obviously it’s a big decision, there’s no denying that. It was a huge decision for me and my family and my friends.

“At times like that in your life you just have to say, ‘Do I want to do it? Absolutely,’ and go for it. There’s no looking back. I’ve never had any regrets in my life or my career and I continue that way to this day.

“I want my career to be successful and I’m going to go out of my way to try and push myself to be the best football player and best person that I can possibly be.”

McTominay had become a trusted part of now sacked manager Erik ten Hag’s side, albeit he sometimes found himself in and out of the side.

The Scotland international had only a year left on his contract, meaning he had to either commit to a new deal or depart, with the Red Devils recouping £25million for the midfielder despite Ten Hag’s reluctance to sell him.

“I’ve got great people around me who help me so much and the stress in my life is very minimal because I’ve got a really good family, amazing friends and I have a lovely girlfriend who do so much for me,” he added.

“I’m very grateful for them. It’s not easy going abroad and having to settle in but it’s been quite seamless to be fair in terms of how much the Italian people have helped me settle into my house and whatever. Things I need, like a car or a taxi or anything like that. I’m very grateful to them.”

McTominay is currently back in the United Kingdom on international duty with Scotland, who host Croatia on Thursday night before visiting Poland.
