Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has confirmed he will miss Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City due to the injury he sustained against Real Madrid.

The France defender was caught by Madrid forward Endrick towards the end of the Reds’ 2-0 Champions League win on Wednesday night and won’t be available for City’s visit at the weekend.

Konate has a knee problem but the exact nature of the injury is unknown, as is the expected length of his absence.

He posted on Instagram: “So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night.

“Now we start the recovery process but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again. Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield.

“Inshallah we will keep going and I will support the team every step of the way.”

Konate has been instrumental in Liverpool’s fine form so far this season with his partnership with Virgil van Dijk providing the platform for Arne Slot’s men.

It is expected England international Joe Gomez will deputise on Sunday as Liverpool look to extend their lead at the top of the table.
