Carlo Ancelotti was delighted after becoming Real Madrid’s most successful ever manager by winning the Intercontinental Cup.
The Italian boss has now won 15 titles in the Real dugout, the most of any manager in the club’s rich history, after his side beat Pachuca 3-0 in Qatar.
Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr were on target at the Lusail Stadium as Los Blancos lifted the tournament, which was formerly the Club World Cup before it was moved to next summer.
Ancelotti’s 15th piece of silverware in total across two separate spells in charge at the Bernabeu sees him move clear of the legendary Miguel Munoz – who won 14 at the Bernabeu between 1959-74.
“It’s a lot of titles. I’m very happy, it’s a success,” Ancelotti said post match.
“The beginning [of the match] was a bit complicated, but then we took control and finished well.
“There was a difference in quality, but we needed attitude. In the end I liked the attitude of the players and up front they made the difference”.
Ancelotti coy on Vinicius Jr
Vinicius Jr put in a man-of-the-match display just a day after being crowned the best men’s player at the Fifa Best awards on Tuesday.
The decision not to award the Brazilian the Ballon d’Or last month led to backlash but Anclelotti refused to be drawn on the subject, instead chossing to praise his entire front three.
“Offensively we did well, there is a lot of quality. Kylian [Mbappe] played a good game, Rodrygo scored the second… We are very happy. We have won another title well,” he stated.
