Manchester City found themselves behind once again at Villa Park this afternoon as Jhon Duran heaped more misery on Pep Guardiola’s struggling side.

The Colombia striker, named ahead of Ollie Watkins in the starting XI, slotted home after 16 minutes, converting Morgan Rogers’ pass in a frenetic opening.

The goal was long overdue with Villa coming close twice before the goal. First Duran found himself in the clear after just 19 seconds but saw his shot saved by Stefan Ortega. From the resulting corner, the German produced a brilliant save to keep out Pau Torres’ header with the ball just failing to cross the line.

Despite Jack Grealish’s best efforts against his former club, City created little in the opening 35 minutes. Their best effort fell to Phil Foden but his shot was kept out by Emiliano Martinez in the Villa goal.

City came into the contest with just one win from their last 11 games
