Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur will be out for two weeks after suffering a concussion during the EFL Cup semi-final first leg win against Liverpool.

Bentancur fell awkwardly when attempting a header at a corner and the game was delayed while he received treatment on the pitch.

He was taken off the field on a stretcher and underwent observations in hospital but manager Ange Postecoglou says he will be fine to return after a spell on the sidelines.

“It looks like a concussion but nothing more than that. He was in the hospital, obviously, and they did all of the tests in terms of checking, making sure everything is okay,” Postecoglou said before his team’s FA Cup third-round clash at non-league side Tamworth.

“And all good. He is back home. He is fine. He is feeling good.

“We’ll obviously follow the protocols now. I think it is a couple of weeks where you have to make sure everything is okay.”

Bentancur will have to sit out next week’s Premier League trip to rivals Arsenal and the clash against Everton but could return for the Europa League fixture against Hoffenheim on 23 January.

“It was distressing, but I thought the lads handled it well, and our medical team handled it well, and, as I say, thankfully, all good,” Postecoglou added.

Tottenham have not won the FA Cup since 1991.
