Borussia Dortmund have sacked manager Nuri Sahin after their 2-1 defeat to Bologna.
Tuesday’s loss in the Champions League was their fourth defeat in a row and leaves them outside the places to qualify for the last 16 automatically.
The Black and Yellow had led in the game but two quickfire goals in the second half from Bologna saw them suffer another defeat.
Dortmund are also languishing in 10th in the Bundesliga after winning only seven of their 18 league games this season.
“We value Nuri Sahin and his work very much,” Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken said.
“We hoped for a long-term collaboration and until the end we had hoped that we could achieve a sporting turnaround together.
“After four defeats in a row, due to only one win in the last nine games and currently tenth in the Bundesliga table, we have unfortunately lost faith in being able to achieve our sporting goals in the current constellation.
“This decision hurts me personally, but it was unavoidable after the game in Bologna.”
Borussia Dortmund and Nuri Sahin are parting ways with immediate effect.

Former midfielder Sahin was appointed last summer after the departure of Edin Terzic, who led them to the Champions League final in 2023-24.
The 36-year-old’s promotion from coaching duties was supposed to usher in a new era for the club but they currently look unlikely to finish in the Champions League spots.
Next Dortmund boss: Erik ten Hag ‘a contender’
One name to immediately rumoured to be in the frame to replace Sahin is Erik ten Hag, who could land his first job since being sacked by Manchester United in November.
The 54-year-old was revealed last week to be working as a ‘shadow coach’ under Sahin and attended their 3-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.
Ten Hag reportedly has a ‘very good’ relationship with Dortmund advisor and former captain Matthias Sammer.
He also has experience working in Germany with Bayern Munich II at the same time Pep Guardiola was managing the senior side.
