Xavi Simons

Xavi Simons today joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee reported to be in the region of £42million.

The 21-year-old was midway through his second season-long loan deal at the Bundesliga club and Leipzig have broken their transfer record to secure him on a contract until 2027.

Leipzig board member for sport Marcel Shaefer said: “We’ve been working for a long time to make this transfer, which is a great one both in a sporting and financial sense, a reality.

“In the past few days, a door suddenly opened, and we were able to seize this opportunity. The deal is in line with our budgetary and transfer-related guidelines.

“We’re pleased to have the clarity of knowing that Xavi is now our player – we now hold all the trump cards. Xavi has come on leaps and bounds at our club and has shown that RB Leipzig is the right place for young, talented footballers. Our joint focus is now on achieving our targets in the second half of the season.”

The Netherlands international has scored 15 goals and added 19 assists in 60 games for Leipzig and is pleased to have made the move permanent.

“I’ve always said that I feel extremely at home in Leipzig and that I’m honoured by the appreciation shown towards me by the club,” he said. “Over the coming weeks and months, I will be able to freely pursue our joint aims of qualifying for the Champions League for the seventh straight season, and of reaching the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin – those are the only things that matter right now!”

Bayern confirm interest in wantaway Tel

While one exciting young player has moved to the Bundesliga, another may be leaving with Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl confirming Mathys Tel wants to quit the club.

The 19-year-old has found game time hard to come by under Vincent Kompany and has emerged as a target for a host of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea.

“We have to see what’s best for everyone,” said Eberl, adding: “I’ve rarely seen so many clubs calling about one player.”

Henderson set for Monaco switch – report

Jordan Henderson may be on the move again with Fabrizio Romano suggesting the former Liverpool captain is close to joining Monaco.

Henderson joined Ajax 12 months ago after a short, ill-fated spell in Saudi Arabia and has been a regular under Francesco Farioli in Amsterdam this season.

PSG centre-half Milan Skriniar has joined up with Jose Mourinho on a loan deal until the end of the season while former Galatasaray winger Hakim Ziyech has joined Qatari club Al Duhail on a permanent deal.
