Leicester v Arsenal – Match Preview

Strikerless Arsenal will Liverpool’s dropped points in the Merseyside can provide the catalyst for them to hunt down the Reds in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool failed to take full advantage of their game in hand on Wednesday but remain seven points ahead of the Gunners, who travel to struggling Leicester on Saturday.

Despite disappointing Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle, the Gunners have not lost in the league since a 1-0 defeat to the Magpies in early November but have drawn five of those 14 games in that run and they will know more dropped points at the King Power Stadium could be costly.

But they head to the East Midlands in something of an injury crisis, with Kai Havertz becoming the latest absentee after being ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, leaving Mikel Arteta without a recognised striker in his ranks.

Leicester, meanwhile, are deep in relegation trouble having lost eight of their last nine league games, having not won since beating West Ham in manager Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge.

Their frustrating continued in the FA Cup as they were controversially beaten 2-1 at Manchester United after former player Harry Maguire headed in a late winner despite being clearly offside.

Leicester v Arsenal – Team News

As well as losing Havertz, Arsenal are also unable to call on Gabriel Martinelli following his injury against Newcastle, with Bukayo Saka still out until March at the earliest and Gabriel Jesus out for the rest of the season.

Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling and Ethan Nwaneri are Arsenal’s only remaining attackers and are nailed on to start on Saturday, with Trossard perhaps the most likely to get the nod through the middle.

Ben White is stepping up his return and has an outside chance of featuring for the first time since November, with Takehiro Tomiyasu still injured.

Jamie Vardy, who has scored 11 goals against Arsenal in the past, is a doubt for the Foxes, who are also sweating on the fitness of Jannik Vestergaard and Victor Kristiansen.

Ricardo Pereira will miss another couple of weeks, with Abdul Fatawu also out.

Leicester v Arsenal Prediction

Arsenal are depleted but visit a side with a dismal record at home and they should still have too much for the strugglers.

Despite an impressive showing against United, Arteta’s men will be a step up and it should be a comfortable win.
