Newcastle United celebrate winning the EFL Cup.

Newcastle United are basking in the glory of their first major trophy since 1969, and their first domestic honour for 70 years, after beating Liverpool 2-1 in the EFL Cup final.

The Magpies produced an outstanding performance at Wembley to win the EFL Cup for the first time in their history, goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak proving enough despite Federico Chiesa pulling one back for Liverpool late on.

Several members of the Newcastle squad had to shorten their celebrations somewhat, with the likes of Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon called up to the England squad for their opening 2026 World Cup qualifiers and Brazil duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton making the long journey to South America for clashes with Colombia and Argentina.

But Newcastle’s exit from the FA Cup means their international break is extended, giving them an ideal window in which to celebrate their historic achievement with the people of the city at the end of this month.

When is Newcastle’s EFL Cup trophy parade?

Newcastle confirmed the date of their trophy parade with a post on social media featuring an image of manager Eddie Howe with the cup, with the picture captioned: “Save the date. 29 March 2025. Full details to follow.”

Howe’s men won’t be able to overdo it with their celebrations at the parade, as Newcastle face a crucial Premier League game with Brentford at St James’ Park three days later as they chase Champions League qualification.

Newcastle are two points adrift of Chelsea in fourth and a point behind Manchester City in fifth. However, they have a game in hand on both teams. With the success of English sides in Europe this season, it is likely the Premier League will receive five places in next season’s Champions League.

But with Newcastle fans getting the opportunity to see their players bring home silverware for the first time for 56 years, it will surely be a day the city will remember forever.
