Croatia will be looking to secure top spot in the Nations League League A Group 1 this Sunday evening when they head on the road to the Ernst Happel Stadium where bottom-placed Austria are aiming to jump ahead of France.
In truth, top spot has been fairly well secured for Croatia for some time. They have only managed to lose one game and draw another, meaning with three losses on their record after the win against Denmark they sit with 10 points and one ahead of the Danes. There is still a chance they will end up finishing second and out of the running for a spot in the knockout rounds, but Denmark will have to beat France and Croatia must also fail to beat Austria in this one.
The 2018 World Cup finalists have managed to vastly improve their form over the past year since an underwhelming Euro 2020 campaign. Now, not long after beating Denmark, Croatia have a great chance to head into the World Cup beaming with confidence and ahead of the world champions in their Nations League group.
Last time out when they were on the road against Denmark, Mario Pasalic was the difference for Croatia as he scored with 20 minutes left on the clock in a 1-0 win at Parken. They did also beat Denmark 2-1 at home on Thursday.
Austria, however, are still only boasting of one win in the group so far which did come in this reverse fixture. Ralf Rangnick’s side hammered Croatia 3-0 as Marko Arnautovic, Michael Gregoritsch and Marcel Sabitzer all scored.
