Match preview

An all-Championship tie here and one that is extremely tough to call.

West Brom won 2-0 at Ashton Gate on Boxing Day, although Bristol City had left the Hawthorns victorious by the same scoreline just 69 days earlier.

In the table, Albion are tenth, nine points better off than the Robins but, with home advantage, Bristol City will fancy their chances of reaching round five.

West Bromwich Albion are five-times FA Cup winners, although the most-recent of these came in 1968.

In more recent times, their last appearance in the semi-finals came in 2008, beaten by eventual winners Portsmouth at Wembley back then.

The Baggies began this latest cup adventure against Chesterfield, very nearly crashing out against the non-league side.

Nevertheless, ten days later, West Brom demolished Chesterfield 4-0 in the replay; John Swift, Tom Rogic, Jake Livermore and Jovan Malcolm scoring.

Bristol City meantime also came through a replay, ousting cross-boarder rivals Swansea.

Both games ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Sam Bell’s goal deep into extra time in South Wales saw his team advance.

The Robins haven’t gone beyond round five of this competition since 1974, but Nigel Pearson’s side are just two wins away from changing that.

Will this one go to a replay at Ashton Gate?
